What exactly is ICEGATE, and what services are available via it?

It is known as the Indian Customs and Central Excise Electronic Commerce/Electronic Data Interchange Gateway. Customs and Central Excise departments' EDI and EC needs are addressed through ICEGATE.

IceGATE is used to exchange information and documents between the department and other regulatory or licensing agencies. ICEGATE online provides a wide range of features, some of which are listed below:

Allows for the following:

  • Bill of Entry electronic filing (declaration of import)

  • Shipment Bill Electronic Filing (declaration of export)

  • Customs fees may now be paid electronically.

  • An all-in-one signature tool for all customs paperwork

  • Submission of supporting documentation through Sanchi Electronic IGST refund is required.

  • Communication with government agencies such as the RBI, banks, DGFT, DGCIS, ministries, directorates, and other agencies

  • Manifest submissions by air and sea carriers

  • A 24-hour support desk for trade partners handles all electronic documents and communications before they are sent on to be processed by the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES).

For export, import, Import General Manifest, Export General Manifest, and Consol Manifest, ICEGATE registration is required. All or any EDI customs port transactions may be completed with a single ICEGATE registration. An email or attachment in one of the pre-specified formats may be used to upload a document to ICEGATE.

ICEGATE's Pros

ICEGATE online provides exporters with a wide range of advantages, including:

  • Registration with ICEGATE is required for the electronic submission of any export/import paperwork.

  • Viewing the status of an online document and following its path through the document tracking system is made possible with ICEGATE.

  • An email will be sent to the registered email address of exporters and importers confirming receipt of shipping bills and other related documents.

  • Trading partners may post a question and obtain an answer through ICEGATE.

  • A genuine ICEGATE ID is required to receive question answers and other outward responses, although exporters and importers may submit an online Shipping Bill, Bill of Entry, or other similar papers in ICEGATE from any email ID.

  • Drip capital may be used for invoice factoring.

Creating an ICEGATE account

Clicking the Login/Sign-up link under 'Our Services' on ICEGATE's website will allow an exporter to sign up for an account. The following are the stages involved in a new registration:

  • Check the availability of the ICEGATE and email IDs by entering them here.

  • Customs broker, airline, shipping line, shipping agency, etc. are some of the user roles available. If you're an IEC-holder, you're not the only one

  • Verify the IEC by entering it.

  • The ICES will export the exporter's information.

  • Upload the same picture ID that you selected.

  • In order to verify the digital certificate, click the CONFIRM button.

  • The registration process will be finished once the registered email address receives an OTP.

  • After completing the registration procedure, exporters must wait for the Department of Commerce to accept their application for registration.

Submission of a shipping bill

On the ICEGATE website, shipping invoices may be filed. The exporter will require the IEC number (or customs house agent number) and the authorized dealer code in order to generate a Shipping Bill. It is possible for the exporter to produce a shipping bill after they have received an order to "Let Export".

On the ICEGATE interface, choose a location and input the shipping bill number and date to see the bill's current status.
